Kira and Trafford's search for a community-oriented, full-day preschool program in Seattle began before their first child's arrival. However, finding a place that could provide their children with a strong foundation to grow and thrive in all aspects of life proved challenging.

Driven by encouragement from friends and family, Kira and Trafford have spent the past three years establishing The Goldfinch School, a diverse and inclusive preschool that recognizes and encourages children's inherent curiosity and wisdom.

Through collaboration with Early Childhood Education experts, including TGS staff, Kira and Trafford have built The Goldfinch School to be a place where early learning experiences truly provide the groundwork for a better tomorrow, and a community of parents, children, and teachers can flourish.

Kira is inspired by her former educational experiences, both at a Friends school in Washington, DC, and a wonderful first-learning experience at Creative Explorers Preschool. Previously, Kira taught preschool at multiple schools on the East Coast and now works full-time in tech.

Trafford grew up in Edmonds, WA and has been passionate about building community, both in his personal and professional life. By day, he is an Electrical Engineer on many of the light-rail systems throughout Washington and Oregon. In his spare time, Trafford serves on The Seattle Children’s Hospital Advisory Committee.

Both Kira and Trafford spend most of their free time with their two little boys (ages 2 and 4) traveling through the many beautiful areas of the Pacific Northwest.
